Dear freelance writer,
Welcome to a newsletter that I hope will make your freelancing journey slightly easier, and a lot less lonelier. This fortnightly newsletter will contain calls for pitches, details on publications, short interviews and useful advice from other writers/ freelancers/ authors, links to good articles (yes, some will be mine!), and writing tips. To make it a little more fun, expect miscellaneous stuff like dog videos.
Why me?
I’ve been a journalist for 11 years, busting my chops at DNA, Hindustan Times and Midday. I’ve been a freelancer since 2017, writing nearly 300 stories for over 50 publications - Indian and international. You can find some of my work here. I have finally reached the sweet spot where my freelance earnings have overtaken my last salary.
You can too.
I am not just saying this so you subscribe! If you have decided to go freelance, you have to possess confidence in buckets.
Before I begin, here are my 10 commandments for being a freelancer in India. I regularly share updates on what it is like to be a freelancer in India - the good, the bad and the ugly on Twitter and Instagram. I recently also started a Twitter thread containing (over 60) calls for pitches.
