Dear writers,
Welcome to another edition of It’s All Write.
I hope you all had a productive month: this could mean anything. I spent days doing nothing but reading and some yoga and I still felt productive!
It thrills me when this newsletter helps people. In the last month, one person got a job and three people (that I know of) got published.
The paid version of the newsletter is a detailed (it’s over 2000 words) guide dedicated to that important aspect of a freelance writer’s life, the pitch. It includes what makes up a pitch, how to write one, advice from editors and a dummy pitch of mine that got published. If you want to subscribe, email me at itsallwrite@outlook.in.
This newsletter is going to be really short.
Ready? Let’s begin.
NEED A JOB?

Silverscreen India is hiring for various positions – Correspondents and Senior Correspondents in Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai; and Editor-in-chief in Chennai. Details, here. Email jobs@silverscreen.in
Job: Juggernaut Books is looking for a science writer to co/ghost write a popular science book with a respected scientist. It’s a narrative, not hard science. Can be based anywhere in India as the work will happen on zoom. Email swarnina@juggernaut.in with your CV and some writing samples.
MISCELLANY
Competition: Global Food History is a scholarly journal that publishes new research in food history. They are accepting articles for the inaugural Prize for an Emerging Food Historian. Award winners will receive $100, and get their contribution peer-reviewed and—pending successful reviews and revisions—published in the journal. More details, here.
Read: Mugdha Singh pens this beautiful essay on being lost for words to explain how we feel living through a pandemic.
Read: Both of these got published because of the newletter! Suradha’s tribute to the fabulous Naya Rivera who died earlier this month and her portrayal of Santana Lopez in Glee; and Kamala Thiagarajan did a story on the ‘bois locker room’ episode and the kind of environment we were creating for our teens to learn about sex and sexuality, for Women's Media Center.
I would like this newsletter to become a little more interactive, so please share feedback, criticism, suggestions, useful links and anything you think needs to be added to this newsletter.
And, if you have any other questions on pitching, email me. I will try and answer them in the next edition.
Till then, keep writing, keep reading, and wash your hands.
And, please subscribe!
Cheers!
